Caitlin Johnson The great thing about fiction is that even though there are books set in our reality as we currently understand it, each creates its own small world unique from others elsewhere in fiction. That's also why it's so difficult to answer this question! But right now, if I had to choose only one of those worlds, I'd have to go with something dreamed up by a WFYP author, as the children in these novels have such a unique and often unvarnished perspective on life, which can illuminate even our adult problems.
Caitlin Johnson Right now, I'm working on the upcoming releases Boomerang Girl (chapbook, Tiger's Eye Press) and Gods in the Wilderness (full-length collection, Pink.Girl.Ink. Press). Once those are ready for publication, I hope to work on a series of new poems.
Caitlin Johnson 1) If you do not read, you have no business writing.
2) Buy a dictionary. No one likes a writer who uses a word he/she doesn't understand.
3) Never make the mistake of thinking that you're a genius. 99 percent of the time, you're far from it.
4) If you are serious about wanting to be a writer, you must accustom yourself to the idea that you are required to put your work out into the world, no matter how frightening doing so may seem.
5) Don't give up.
Caitlin Johnson "Inspiration" is not part of my vocabulary. When it comes to writing, you can't wait for the idea to come to you, or else you might end up waiting for days, weeks, or even years. It is far better to sit down and do the work.
