Goodreads asked Caitlin Johnson:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Caitlin Johnson 1) If you do not read, you have no business writing.
2) Buy a dictionary. No one likes a writer who uses a word he/she doesn't understand.
3) Never make the mistake of thinking that you're a genius. 99 percent of the time, you're far from it.
4) If you are serious about wanting to be a writer, you must accustom yourself to the idea that you are required to put your work out into the world, no matter how frightening doing so may seem.
5) Don't give up.
