Gerald Hickman My entire life and religion is a mystery to me and others. I talked about these mysteries in my book: Good Times in Old Genesse. Mysteries are an important part of my book about General Custer's Last Stand: titled - Medal of Honor. I am looking for more mysteries to include in future books.
Gerald Hickman I have a series of friends and authors that I depend on to help me edit, offer suggestions and such things. I try to offer the same help to them in return. The interesting thing is that my wife will not help edit or proof my books.
Time management is mostly attempting to write and edit early on in the process and not too wait too close to the publication date so my helpers have a chance to reply with any edits and comments.
Gerald Hickman Nick and Nora Charles and I can't explain why. They are the first couple that came to my mind from the world of fiction. Thanks for the question. Gerald
Gerald Hickman Great to hear from you! There are actually two books in the mill at present.
One is the history of Indian tribes mostly from the Pacific Northwest from about 1847 to 1862. The second book (which may come out soonest) is the career of a wildlife biologist, the field work, the politics, but mostly about the majestic wildlife species we enjoy watching in the USA. Realistically, the next publication date will probably be July, 2016.
There is another Giveaway on Goodreads for my earlier book: Medal of Honor, the Courage of the Troopers and Warriors at the Little Bighorn.
Thanks again for you kind words. Gerald Hickman
Gerald Hickman Next book effort is a history of my home town, Genesee, Idaho in the famous Palouse Hills, there will be wildlife threads and history and tales about my ancestors. To follow will be a coverage of the Western Indian Wars from 1850 thru 1878. And then a book about my career as a wildlife biologist working for Washington State and for the Feds for the Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation studying Desert Tortoise and Desert Bighorn Sheep.
Gerald Hickman When I worked as a Park Ranger in 2002 and 2003, I realized that my view of the history of the park was somewhat new and different than many of the accepted books on the subject. The idea was that I could write an account of the event that might be of interest to History classes, students, and people who specialize in study of the Park and its history.
Thus, I began the book centered on the Ranger Talks given daily to the visitors and the book expanded to include the 2 years effort of the Government resulting from the original event.
Gerald Hickman I do some activity that is completely separate from writing. I tie trout flies or go birding for a couple hours. Reading other writers and reviewing my own past efforts can often help me break writer's block.
Gerald Hickman My efforts at writing help me share and store my experiences and memories. If in the future one of my relatives or anyone else reads something I have written it makes all my thought and planning of each item worth a great deal to me.
