Brent Thomas Jeez, as an aspiring writer (only one novel out there) I'm still looking for advice.
Brent Thomas Setting up the framework for the next Deadly Troubadour novel as well as podcasting.
Brent Thomas Write. Anything. A review, a short story, a status update, anything. I also carry around a notebook (it's currently a purple one) that I jot down ideas or work out story beats in. Sometimes just adding to that or even reading it over can end the slump.
Brent Thomas Sometimes it is just a matter of knowing I have to write. When I get a project started I try and set a weekly goal and just write until I hit or exceed that goal. I'm lazy, so if I just wait around for true "inspiration" I don't think I would accomplish anything. That said for some reason ideas come to me in the shower. It just tends to be a great place to brainstorm.
Brent Thomas This book has a lot of different ideas out there. The kernel of the Demetrius Tate story line came from an imagined character for an online DnD game that never really got off the ground. Still, only the artifact that exists made it into the book. As for Demetrius himself, he was just an idea for a little short story I wrote for my blog. After ending the little story the character stuck in my head and I had to explore him, his friends and the world they live in.
