Hey Mark, haven't been on the GR home page in a while... Quick answer is: an average of 150k. That said, the three I wrote were way too long. Next book out, "Maug" is only going to be about 65k. Much more manageable. "Shasta" will probably be in the same range. "Verdigris?" We'll see.
Now that KW is gone (sniff), I'm trying to stick with a 50k to 100k word count. 90k Seems to be the sweet spot, and way easier to edit.

Bill couldn't move, couldn't speak. He heard the woman from Hospice say, "I've turned up the morphine-drip; his pain will end soon."

I'm at 75% of "Moonlight and Darkness," the third and final story in my Red Messenger Series. Some new characters and old, pending sub-plots wrapped and put away, and I hope a satisfying answer to the pending question: "What was Cnan's message, anyway?"
Going to beta in June and out on Kindle by the end of August.

Of all times? Zhivago and Lara. Why? Well, because it's Zhivago and Lara, c'mon. Okay, because Zhivago is a house-husband with the heart of a poet. Lara is the "leaf in the wind." They have their moment, then all is swept away by the typhoon that is early 20th century Russia. To get the rest, ya gotta read the book (two or three times).
However, of recent, I'd say Nick and Amy Dunne (Gone Girl), because they are so wonderfully dysfunctional, yet so perfectly suited to each other. Read it for the character development, that's the important element of this story, not the "twist" or even the clever denouement.
