Howard G. Franklin Thank you for asking. I actually posted an in depth answer to this in a feature on the Above The Law blog. You can read more here too http://howardgfranklin.com/force-behi...

I wholeheartedly hope that my novel, Gideon’s Children, will make a positive contribution by educating its readers about the workings of our Criminal Justice System and the critical need to improve those workings, as well as the equal importance of protecting our individual constitutional rights in the face of their abrogation by The Patriot Act, the No-Fly Rule, and the virtually unrestricted spying on Americans by the FBI, the CIA, and the NSA.
Howard G. Franklin Steffie, in all honesty, I've been so busy with the pre-publicity campaign for my novel, Gideon's Children, that I haven't had time to read as much as I'd like. Mainly I've contented myself with reading a poem or two per day, and a short book, Conscience, by Rabbit Harold Schulweis, which I highly recommend. I hope to have more time later this year after my novel is released on March 3rd, and your book is on my list.
Howard G. Franklin The best part of being a writer is struggling with all of your mind and heart and soul to grasp some semblance of the meaning of human existence and set it down on paper or digital apparatus.
Howard G. Franklin My advice to aspiring writers is the same modus operandi that I follow: Write what you know, and write for Emerson's unknown friend while enjoying the creative process to the fullest. Naturally, the desire to share one's creation will arise for most writers, so I would add that one should adopt the advice of Tolstoy that the greatest of all warriors are Time and Patience, and utilize the opportunities presented by the internet and social media.
Howard G. Franklin I am currently working on a collection of poetry to be entitled Life Looks, and a collection of short stories entitled Crazy Dreams, to be published in 2016.
Howard G. Franklin I love writing, and my inspiration flows naturally from life circumstances. By that I mean that I write about what I observe in the world and reflect upon. I have written a lot of poetry, most of which arose spontaneously from something I observed or read about that struck a chord inside me and generated the need to express my thoughts and feelings about a person, or an event, or simple observation. My travel memoir, An Irish Experience, was inspired my travels in Ireland in the Fall of 2001, during which my notebook overflowed with observations about the people, architecture, history, geography, art, music, and dance because I simply fell in love with the country, and when I returned home I needed to express my thoughts and feelings about it.
Howard G. Franklin My most recent book, Gideon's Children, a novel, is based on my personal experiences working as a Deputy Public Defender in the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office during the tumultuous decade of the 1960s. From 1968 to 1970 I was stationed in the Compton Judicial District, which incorporated parts of Watts, unincorporated Willowbrook, and Lynwood, and was part of a team of public defenders that fought for civil rights in the courtroom as part of the greater Civil Rights Movement.
