Lucy Lakestone We're surrounded by mysteries, and I'm always wondering about the story behind everything. I don't know all the details behind why my immigrant grandparents came to the U.S. from Italy, for example, and the stories I heard when I was just a kid left me with a lot of questions.

Sometimes the mysteries seem superficially silly but could have a deeper story behind them; one of the best things about reading and writing mysteries is digging beneath the surface. My silly mystery is that during our wedding, or should I say after our wedding, someone made off with the pretty bucket that held the champagne bottle we were quaffing. I know it's just a champagne bucket, but I really loved it, and of course, it had sentimental value. What happened to it? And why would someone take the bride's champagne bucket? Sounds like the start of a Bohemia Bartenders mystery to me. :)
Lucy Lakestone Maybe this is kinda meta, but I love the idea of the Book World in Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series. His characters can transition into not just one fictional book but many. And his novels are wonderfully fun. Of course, if I get to travel into fictional books, I'd definitely visit mine. There's always beautiful scenery... and excellent places to drink cocktails. Plus I'd like to meet my characters in person. The thing about writing is you can live other lives, but to actually step into those lives would be exhilarating. Having a movie or TV series made from my books would be the next best thing.
Lucy Lakestone In VEXED BY VODKA, Book 3 of the Bohemia Bartenders Mysteries, the vanishing of Gramps Rockaway is the central mystery - along with the murders that surround his disappearance. He's bartender Neil's grandfather and a treasure hunter. When I was researching shipwrecks, I ran across a ship named for a notorious British historical figure who was connected with a very special treasure. Not to give anything away, but this inspired elements of the book (I give more details in the book's acknowledgments). And in this novel, it appears a secondary character, Pepper's hilariously annoying ex Mr. Mixy, is also being targeted by a killer. Let's just say Mr. Mixy is inspired by every egotistical, hapless, bad ex-boyfriend you can imagine!
