I try to think of it as a job when I am writing. But when I am coming up with a story I am inspired by everything and everyone around me. While writing Starlight Wedding my girlfriend at the time was a planner and I was an artist. I exaggerated the friction that caused in our relationship to make the main characters in Starlight Wedding have a little extra drama in their relationship.

I'm on vacation! Finally! I've been working on Starlight Wedding for over a year. Now it's time to enjoy. I am planning my next novel, of course, but I'm not sure yet what it will be.

Learn the craft by finding books on structure before you begin writing anything. Even the worst idea can be made into something with a few nudges here and there.

Seeing a character come alive as you move through the story. While I plan my beats in the story, the characters always surprise me in the first draft. And I love it!

Great question! Writer's block doesn't exist if you write for tv which is where I got my start. You don't have time because the deadline is too close. That being said, the reason it doesn't exist is because I don't start to write unless I have "broken" the story first. That is a technical term which means I've come up with every major beat in the book before I've written a word. The writing is the fun part. If I get stuck I plow through and revise later. As they say, "Don't let perfection be the enemy of good." Once I have a first draft, then comes the revisions to make it better."
