My academic and professional background inspired Design for the Mind. My academic background focused on psychology and communication in informal learning contexts. I also worked with museums, science centers, and zoos to examine how people learn in those settings. Once I started working in digital design I realized how much psychology plays a role in how and why people use digital products as well. I started writing about how to apply psychology to design. I wrote a few articles and realized I had enough to say for (at least) one book on the topic.
