Emily C. Burger When I was in about grade 9 I noticed that the majority of my classmates had the tendency to underestimate themselves. I desperately wanted them to realise their potential and put aside their fears and doubts because their disbelief was robbing them of their full potential. Thus I constructed the characters and plot of Thieves of Greatness around this concept, with the goal of demonstrating the power of self-belief.
Emily C. Burger It was a combination of a dream I had which I was convinced would make an exciting starting point for a book, as well as a message I had been considering for a while and felt strongly about communicating. The message being one of self-belief, of conquering your fears and realising that everyone is capable of their own unique form of Greatness.
Emily C. Burger A secret. Something I expect will be completely different to anything before it. But I want to do it properly - so rushing it is not on my to-do list.
Emily C. Burger I pretend no one else in the entire world will ever see my scribbled attempts at writing, and then I write about the daftest things, things that could never be part of a "proper" story. The sort of things that pop into your head when you're washing the dishes. Usually they just join the pile of previous scribbles, but on occasion they can string themselves into a story of some kind and then I let it take me from there.
Emily C. Burger You can dream and think differently. You can find your inner artist and release it upon the world wildly and with dangerous honesty. But the best part is watching readers spark with inspiration, or feeling encouraged by the words you have written. That for me is the most rewarding part.
Emily C. Burger Just keep writing. Even when you don't feel like it or you feel as though your work isn't good enough. You never know where you're pen might take you next.
