My current book is a manifestation of my podcast. The topics highly aligned and the book is truly my podcast in written form. My publisher asked me to write a book about the topics I discuss on the show (productivity, early mornings, healthy habits, personal growth, etc.), so this book basically wrote itself.

I write about topics that are already on my mind. I don't necessarily try to inspire myself to write because I have a writing schedule and my only real goal is to stick to my schedule. Inspiration follows action, so if I do something (like sit down and write), then I can break past the inertia, fear, and procrastination techniques that all writers master early in their profession.

I'm in the editing phase of my first traditionally published book, The 5 AM Miracle. I have written 3 short eBooks and 1 self-published book before, so this project is a whole new adventure. It's more work than anything I have ever done, but that's why it will be worth it when it's over.

Write more. Blog every week. Write all the time, every day if you can. The more you write the better you will be. On that same note, read more. The best writers are avid readers. If you only ever write for yourself, that's good enough. Writing is its own reward.

Writing is my best cathartic practice. Writing helps me find out what I'm thinking. It clarifies my ideas and it helps me communicate in the most effective manner. Being a writer means pulling ideas out of your head and making them tangible, on paper, for the world to see. It's something all of us can do and we all should do it more. Writing is a key to our true selves.

I don't tend to get writer's block because I focus on creating content that I know well. I choose to write about topics that I personal experience with, that I have written about before in another context, or that I have read about extensively. In short, if I have a block around a topic it means I probably shouldn't be writing about it yet.
