Mimi Cross Idris. Definitely. Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter home country—a sanctuary hidden from mundanes. I'd love to travel the mountains surrounding Alicante, and of course see the city itself! Aaand hang out with Shadowhunters.
Mimi Cross Living in leggings.
KIDDING.
The best thing about being a writer is of course—the writing. You can write the story *you* want to read. Or you can write the story you *need* to write. Sometimes they're one and the same. Either way, writing is something I need to do. When I don't write, I'm not happy.
Mimi Cross It's a secret ;)
Mimi Cross I'm lucky, I don't really get writer's block. But there are a lot of things I do that I'm pretty sure would help people who suffer from it.

The biggest thing? Movement. I teach a workshop called Body of Writing that combines yoga, meditation, music, and visualization with writing exercises. It's designed to boost creativity.

Our bodies hold our stories, they have a wisdom of their own that doesn't make the most logical sense to our minds sometimes. When you dance and sing and practice yoga postures, you inhabit your body in a totally different way, and that helps you inhabit the bodies of your characters.

But you don't even have to go that far. Just put on some music and dance, or go for a walk. Repetitive movement helps. Walking, swimming, sweeping, cleaning. Or you can try rearranging your furniture. I'd rather dance.
Mimi Cross A few years ago a friend of mine sent me this great song about a girl crushing on a guy. After listening to it a bunch of times, I got the feeling that the girl was watching the guy from afar, and I wondered why she wasn’t trying to connect with him, since she was so into him. From there I rabbit-holed, wondering about a lot of things, but mainly, why so many people have trouble expressing themselves. And I realized, over time, that I had an idea about this girl: hers was no ordinary case of awkwardness, of being tongue-tied. Finding the right words--that was the crux her struggle. And also, to find something beyond words.
Mimi Cross Songs, movies, books, nature. These are the things that inspire me to write. Sometimes I'm inspired by relationships—or the need to escape them.
Mimi Cross Write. That's it.
Write, and you're no longer an aspiring writer—you're a writer.
