I had read about eight or ten contemporary leadership books and even heard some of them talk at public and private events. After listening to James C. Hunter's audiobook on servant leadership, I realized that no author to my knowledge has tried to synthesize and tell the collective story on how leadership is evolving.
In my graduate studies, I conducted some meta-analysis research to identify new patterns about some academic subject. I realized that I could apply the same process to help readers more effectively learn about 21 Century Leadership. By doing so, readers could not only learn about how leadership is changing but also learn what books and resources are available to further their leadership development.

James C. Hunter published an audiobook on servant leadership. His views of leadership helped me perceive how leadership is changing.
I used to think that servant leadership and situational leadership II (Blanchard's copyrighted approach) pretty much captured how leadership has changed. Since then, I discovered that there's a lot more about the leadership evolution than these two important approaches. The more I discovered about the shift from traditional to contemporary leadership, the more inspired I became to sharing this transformation with readers.

I'm working on the hardest part of the writing process: Marketing. I'm relatively unknown in my field, so my focus is using social media and appearances to share my content.
I've started research for my next book. The first one is designed to help individuals improve their leadership capabilities and practices. The second one will be about how to transform an organization's culture to incorporate leadership practices at all career levels.

For nonfiction writers (I really can't speak for fiction writers): Outline what you want to write and talk with colleagues about your topics. If you have any models, charts, or figures, get feedback as you develop your materials.
You don't have to write linear, so start with the easiest chapters first. You want some progress so that you'll start to build momentum.

While the writing process is rewarding, meeting people who have different perspectives than your own and have questions about my subject area is the best part. I learn from readers and people interested in leadership by how they question something.

In the morning, I determine what I want to accomplish for the day. At the end of the day, I review what worked, didn't work, and how I might try to do better the next day. I never allow an unproductive day get to me - they'll happen and you simply accept it.
