When your best friend does not return, after the power went out at her house in the woods, after she went outside to check the fuse, leaving you alone in the dark, with rain pounding on the roof, you open the door and yell her name into the darkness. There is only wind and rain, and something else—a low howl, maybe, a snapping—probably just wind in the trees, probably nothing at all—so you go out into the storm to find her.
