Elle G. Mraz For me, it's all about a feeling. Some people are great about being disciplined. I'm not one of them. Maybe if this was my career/job, I would be. But right now it's a side adventure. So my advice is based on how I write:
When the moment strikes, write. You might pour your heart out all at once well into the wee hours of the night. Then, the next day, riding on the excitement of finally writing just like you've always wanted, do NOT read what you wrote, just keep on writing. When you slow down days later, read what you wrote that first day for inspiration. You'll be less critical of your work and you'll find little bits of inspiration to help you finish out your thoughts. Then just wait for the next wave of inspiration to strike. Before you know it, they come on a more regular basis as your thoughts gather a more concrete form.
Elle G. Mraz I don't write and have to drop it all otherwise it comes out forced. Then I drive by the ocean and listen to great music and something's bound to strike when I'm far away from the computer. As long as I can run a scene over and over in my head like a movie reel, I'll remember it when I have time to write later.
Elle G. Mraz Book 2 in the Gold Coast Romance series - I guess the term is serial romance. There are cliffhangers. Somewhat sloping ones. :) The second book is called Healing a Broken Heart.
Elle G. Mraz The inspiration behind this story I answered in a previous question. My inspiration to write in general probably comes from being a fairly introspective person. I navigate my thoughts better while writing. Although I don't journal. Which I guess that seems strange. I like to write for an audience. Not myself. But before I write a story or scene, I picture it all. Everything plays out like a movie first. The trick is trying to write it down as rapidly as it runs through my brain. :)
Elle G. Mraz I've always enjoyed writing and knew I wanted to write a book one day. Gil's words in Anne of Green Gables came to mind - telling Anne to write what she knows. So nursing. But saucy romance was something I never considered. Until really learning about my work colleagues interests. When 50 Shades was passed around like a raging case of herpes on my unit, I laughed. Then one day while taking care of a patient, I heard her daughter (40+ yr old woman) giggling in the corner of the room while holding a Kindle. She apologized to me (her mom was pretty sick but I get it... everyone needs an escape). I was like, "No worries. You can laugh." And then she told me she was reading 50 Shades. Finally, I was like: okay, hand over the dog-eared book coworkers, I gotta see what this is all about. I read all 3 in a week. But I'm not one to easily swoon and I was so surprised how invested some of my coworkers became in it. So I looked into the romance genre and found out how huge it was and how fun it can be and decided to give them a story we could all relate to as nurses. There is plenty of workplace sex and drama in a hospital to inspire a thousand romance novels. I wrote this one for my coworkers. :)
