This was very much a God-centred thing. I became a public speaker in 2005 and was told I needed a book so that I would get engagements. I was encouraged to try writing any book on Churchill and was assured it would be published. However, this was neither something I wanted to do, nor felt it would be respectful to Great-Grandpapa were I to find it were that easy. In frustration, as far away from God and faith as possible, I looked to Heaven in despair and said: "Go on God, you tell me the one thing about my great-grandfather's life that has never been written about or discussed." Moments later, I kid you not, I found the three stories that in 2014, became the basis of 'God & Churchill'

Music helps a lot. Find the musicians that really speak to you and help your inspiration flow. I would find it very difficult to write without music.

Write something/anything every day. Don't always expect inspiration to flow. Writing is an art, like painting, it takes practice.

Working from home. Although, with a 20-month old baby, that can be trying at times. However, my little son and I have it worked out so while he is sleeping, I am writing. The best thing is truly the fact that I have been able to watch him grow in front of me. I saw him take his first step. I heard is first word. These were things I couldn't have done had I not become an author. It made the slog to this point well worth it.

I try to write something every day. It doesn't matter if what I am writing is good or makes sense, it is just practicing. This I find helps immensely when it comes to inspiration.
