Larry Rhoton I’ve been fortunate when it comes to writer’s block; I don’t think I’ve experienced this. Sometimes I don’t feel as creative as I need to be or think I should be, but I don’t stop writing. I may write some terrible sentences, paragraphs, and pages, but I keep writing. The next day I go back and edit what I wrote.

If you come to a halt, create a new adversary, hero, or have one of your characters kill someone. Your mind will take off from there. LOL

When you’re not writing, think about what you’ve written. I do this when I’m driving or mowing the lawn. Then when I start writing, I’ll add some charm, a murder, a missing person, or a new villain. Writer’s block is the perfect time to bring a new character into your story and down a side avenue. In the end, you’ll tie it all together.

Larry Rhoton The best thing about being a writer is you create a world where you make things happen. You create heroes and villains. You make good, and wicked things happen. You can solve any problem right there in front of you, in your creative world.

Plus, one of the greatest feelings in the world is finishing your first novel and getting it published.

Larry Rhoton Don’t worry about having an entire book in your mind, or outlining what’s going to happen next. Don’t worry about formatting, editing, or the cover. That will come later.
If you are inspired to write...START.
Write a sentence, and I will guarantee your mind with take you the rest of the way. The worst writer is the one who doesn’t start.

An example: John stood in the shadows across the street from the cafe. He listened to the rain assaulting the awning over his head, the canopy was small, but it was better than nothing. He pulled his coat around his neck. He hated the rain, but tonight, it would help conceal his presence.

This is a couple of quick sentences. Once you have that, you can GO. John could be a murderer, vampire, ghost, mobster, minister, detective, or spy. It depends on what and where your mind takes you.

My advice to anyone who wants to write is to START.
Larry Rhoton I’m currently working on another detective fiction novel. It’ll be the second novel under The Cigar Room Mysteries; I haven’t decided on a subtitle. This novel should be published by October 2020.
Larry Rhoton At the age of 35, I moved into a haunted house. Of course, we didn’t know it was haunted at the time, but after purchasing and moving into the home, we soon discovered it was.
We lived there for three years and witnessed many supernatural occurrences. We soon learned the meaning of “things that go bump in the night.’ Some events were terrifying and frightening, while others were more approachable and nonthreatening.
Years after moving out of the house, I decided to write a book about what we witnessed in this old home, so I became interested in writing. Once I started, I couldn’t quit.
As a paranormal investigator, my first three novels are a mixture of real-life experiences blended with a vivid imagination. So they are fiction. Again, once I started writing, I knew I’d never stop.
Larry Rhoton I’ve always wanted to write a detective fiction novel. My main character, Detective Allen Boggs, just came to me one night as I sat thinking about this book. I liked the name Boggs, as everyone calls this detective by his last name, it sounded good.
As I wrote the novel, I put myself in the detective’s shoes, searching every nook and cranny for clues leaving no stone unturned.
Then I put myself in the shoes of the adversary, I wanted to commit the crime, but not get caught. Is it the perfect crime, pretty much?
The challenge as a criminal was how to stay one step ahead of Detective Boggs and his friends. Sometimes, the obvious isn’t so obvious, or maybe it is.
