Places inspire me, especially the coast. Walking on the beach looking at the sea, the waves, the colours, the reflections the sky - all these things help me to develop a sense of place in my writing. Also buildings inspire me - I can imagine who lived in a house, what they looked like, what they wore, how they decorated it, how they lived in the space. History inspires me too. How people lived, worked and loved in a particular era. Lastly women inspire me. My books are set in the past when women often had no voice, no votes and no rights. Researching how women lived in the 18 century made me glad to be alive today!
