Readers! That may sound corny, but it's true... A major point of writing is to communicate with people and explore ideas, and I've really enjoyed hearing what readers think on my blog. The sort of writing I do often feels like a conversation with the reader - when I first sent the manuscript of 'Words of Power' to a friend, he said reading it was like settling down for a long chat with me over a pint. I was delighted. In fact, I think I probably bought him a pint...

A couple of projects at the moment. One is a history of John Webster's revenge tragedy 'The Duchess of Malfi' - it has been rewritten, adapted and staged in so many different ways in the four centuries since it was written. The history is fascinating - amomost other things it involves Spanish spies, Victorian divas, and dancers dressed as skeletons...
The other project is another book on literature and the Bible - it's a series of chapters which explore how popular culture and the Biblical books connect, from The Hunger Games and Harry Potter, to She's The Man and Narnia. It looks at the way we can trace connections and literary images between the works - it's not an attempt to find 'Bible values' in pop culture, or anything like that. (Like everyone else I groan inwardly when I hear a preacher say of pop culture '...and isn't that a little bit like Jesus?')

I do, rather - it makes for variety, but can sometimes become inconvient! I certainly will - I've been working on a chapter about how Christie, P.D. James and Ngaio Marsh all engage with the play in different ways.
