I would love to travel aboard the Enterprise-D for some time to explore strange new worlds and see the wonders of the galaxy. But under no circumstances I would put on a yellow shirt! (Security wears yellow shirts in Star Trek TNG, not red like the did in TOS.)

You don't have to commute. Really, that's a great thing! I had to commute for ten years while living in Mainz and working in Frankfurt. Most of the time the trains were crowded, most of the time it was too hot in there. And the few times we drove by car we had heavy traffic or even a traffic jam. It was tedious. Now I get up, have my breakfast and then I just need to take a few steps to get to my writer's office. It's absolutely great. (The downside is it is much more difficult to separate live from work. Because work is only a few steps away.)

Just do it! Don't worry about the quality of your text. Don't worry about how to get published. The first thing you need is writing practise. And you only get this by writing. So, sit down, switch off your smartphone, block all social media sites and dream yourself away into the worlds of your fiction.
