I read my first Nigel Balchin novel, The Small Back Room, in 1991. I started to try to find information about the author in public libraries and realized that it was in short supply. Twenty-four years later, having researched the subject intensely, I published the first biography of Balchin!

Nothing specific at the moment but am weighing up the pros and cons of three or four books that I would like to write eventually.

Seeing your work in print and being able to say "I did that!"

I had a bad bout of this in 2012 and tried to work through it - not to be recommended! I ended up writing substandard stuff that later had to be scrapped or substantially altered. My advice therefore would be to have a complete break from writing, do something completely different for a while and then return to the writing desk refreshed and raring to go again.
