Inspiration is not a problem. I get inspired by historical or current events. Sometimes I get inspired by the story of a family friend or a family member. The hard part is filling in the big blank space between the inspiration and the end with perspiration!

I don't have a solid list yet; but I am planning to read some non-fiction. I need to put some productive fuel back into my reading time!

"The Chief"
Here is part of the teaser for it:
"Chief Carson is compelled into a harrowing rescue mission behind the lines of this new nation. He must navigate danger, ill-defined political boundaries, and violent factions that span the spectrum of politics and self-interest."

Jump in with both feet and stick at it. I review and rewrite as I go. My editor also gives me a lot of good feedback to make it better. It is good to have a good sounding board.

Telling stories, of course. And reading them as I write them. I have a meaty outline, but most of the setting and details just come out of my fingertips as I write the story. So it is almost like reading the story as I write it.

From the news. No matter their political bent, one has to admit that the middle ground in America has shrunk to almost nothing. The CALEXIT movement was the catalyst for the thrilling political post-apoc novel I am writing now. But to fill in the details all I have to do is watch the news and add some color. This style of writing has been much faster for me than the intricately researched historical novels I have been writing. Of course, I want this story to be plausible so there is still plenty of research involved.

Thanks for asking. I have only been writing for about four years and so far it has not been a problem. I am writing two genres. My first books chronicle the history of the US Navy and Marine Corps during the American Revolution. They very closely follow history. So I do the research, lay it out chronologically, and look for patterns in the characters and event that make a cohesive story. Then I use that for an outline and just start writing.
Now I have begun writing a "Post Apocalypse" or "Political Thriller" novel. Since it is my first I just have ideas popping up all the time. The big problem now is staying with the plot and filing away the pop-up ideas for sequels.
