Jane Paffey My book is about a small flock of snowgeese living at the York University campus. I had been a visitor to the campus for some time, watching the birds and getting to know some of them, particularly a goose called Blueberry. I came to know Blueberry extremely well, and became very attached to her. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I decided to write a book about Blueberry's life to help distract myself from the intense anxiety I was experiencing. I really wanted to share Blueberry's story, and also - at the risk of sounding a bit morbid - I was afraid that, if I was to die as a result of my illness, so many of the details of her life could be lost; how old she was when she built her first nest, how many goslings she hatched each year, and some of her many adventures during her lifetime. I thought it would be nice for anyone interested in reading animal stories to be able to read about the exploits of a little snowgoose flock which has been, to me, a goose mini soap-opera unfolding in front of my eyes.
