C.J. Edmunds Read and Write and repeat the cycle. We writers began as Readers so I feel it's the most natural that we would gravitate towards writing down the words that play in our heads. How often and the quality of what we put in will certainly contribute both to the quality and quantity of the work. And upon releasing it to the world, we can only hope that fellow readers will embrace what we have done.
C.J. Edmunds While I suppose it does, on a subliminal level. it's something that I've never really equated or thought would go hand in hand. But listening to audiobooks and my on-air work certainly both helps me in finding the right tone and voice when I read back my own work or when I record my own work for audiobook.

I have no doubt that should I get into dictation, my on-air work and its benefits will certainly come into play.
C.J. Edmunds My latest book is Sojourn.

It's actually the first one that I wrote before embarking on the Dark District series with "Take Me Now" as the first story in that series.

It was inspired by a local comic called Trese, which told of this girl named Alexandra Trese, who owns a bar called the Diabolical, in downtown Manila, and who combats the city's Supernatural threats along with her two loyal bodyguards, a pair of half-breed Aswang twins.

It gave the reader something familiar and yet it was new as it opened my eyes to urban fantasy and that it was indeed possible to have one in a local setting. The writing was done about after a year of my father's death in 2007 and later was submitted to be part of a writing workshop called Strange Lit. It was part of the Darkest Dreams bundle released thru Buqo books.

Later I went back and revised and expanded it and this is the book you currently are reading.
C.J. Edmunds A lot of other writers debunk the "myth" and say that there really is no such thing. But as a creative individual, it's important to know the cause of that blockage. It may be that your outline hasn't been refined enough or thought through, so much so that you are stumped on an aspect of the story because of it. Or probably you've lost your drive to finish the story because you are starting to find it boring.

Change things. Skip a chapter in your writing. Do everything to make it new and to start fresh.

The great detective author, Raymond Chandler did say that and I'm paraphrasing him, "That if all your characters are in a room and nothing happens, have some one come in with a gun."

It's that. Make your scenes interesting. Make something happen. And see how your characters will react to it.
C.J. Edmunds The best thing about being one is the chance to capture what we see, feel and experience through words and hope that the reader feels equally what we see. By doing so, it forces us to be more aware and sensitive about the world around us and mine those instances to serve as an inspiration for our writing.
C.J. Edmunds I've just finished work on a standalone story called Sojourn, also set in my Dark District universe and awaiting notes from my editor. Once incorporated that would be my next immediate release.

In the meantime, I am working on the next story for the Tales of the Dark District series and expanding the roster of character with their own tales. Next two Tales are entitled, "Take My Hand" and "Take My Heart."
C.J. Edmunds It's a toss between Hogwarts and Middle Earth. But I would also love to explore my own world, the Dark District.
