I feel inspired so deeply and constantly, I can hardly stand it sometimes, to be frank. Inspiration chases and hunts me down, no matter where I hide. The hard part is channeling the showers of screaming light and sparkly darkness into actual art.

Fight to make your vision come to life. Fight -- bravely, relentlessly, with your blood on fire, or when it runs cold. All the negatives that hector and stalk aspiring writers -- despair, addictions, self-destructiveness, anger, fear, economic hardship -- can be used as part of your art. I'm not saying that struggling makes you a better artist, but you often can find gifts in the toughest situations.

Honestly, I've never really struggled with it. I sympathize with people who have it. I think it comes from a certain, cruel form of perfectionism. I've hated things I've written, often for months on end, but my impulse to go forward is usually very intense -- and so I just keep on writing.
