I met Jim once or twice at pow wows where he was selling his books. His work influenced me as a young adult. He was from Fond du Lac, and I am from Red Lake, but both are Anishinaabe reservations in MN. : )

This book is based on my own coming-of-age tale. There are some fictional elements, but a lot of what happens to the main character Winnow happened to me either exactly like it is written, or in a similar way.
I wrote this book after a few attempts at writing sci-fi novels and finding I was having a hard time fleshing out the characters in a realistic way. I realized that I had a ton of unprocessed emotional trauma and wasn't able to dive deep into my characters. I wrote this book to heal.
