This book is part of the Lorelie saga a series of books centered around the last daughter of Lilith, a 'Liliot, goes way back in the bible for sourcing but like everything else in this book it's very well researched and well written for example I loved this nugget of research

Something to see as they performed the act in their processions I suppose.” Jessie chuckled.“I know girls who’d pay to see that. The ceremony was called the Hilaria. The word hilarious comes from it, but we’ve lost the sarcasm Romans attached to it. ,"

Lots of my enjoyment of reading is finding little Easter eggs of knowledge like this one, hidden away in descriptive text I picked up so much from this small book about San Francisco at the turn of the century, about the Chinese gangs, the Prostitutes, and the politics of that era, also really enjoy how the author weaves in Native American views, and stories throughout these books, it's written with care and respect I'm very impressed by it. The Broken Coast is a great compliment to Treasures of the Night, and soon I'll add the other books like Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther's series this one doesn't seem to follow a narrative that requires you to read the books in order which is great since I don't know what order these books are suppose to be read, just read them, it would be a shame if you miss such a good series due to it's smallness in readership but this is a very good series easy reading intelligently written with a romantic positive world view even if all the stories evolve around the darker aspects of city life in the 1880-1900's five stars I highly recommend these books. ...more "
