I have mainly written stories set in the classical, medieval and modern periods. I love shows like Vikings, Barbarians and The Last Kingdom but haven’t written about those periods myself yet. I would do if I found a story both gripping and unusual that hadn’t already been done. Cheers for the question!(less)

I generally spend six months on research, three on writing and three on editing.

I’ve been writing full time for over thirty years and have twenty-three books currently in print, (with probably another twenty out of print), so it’s quite a long time to be producing them. I’m glad it appears to be quick! Happy you’re enjoying them, cheers!(less)

The journey made by Valerius from far western China to Rome was around 25,000km and took him almost two years. For those readers who are interested, I’ve marked it on an ancient map.

Ends of the Earth by Colin Falconer

Researching this journey made Ends of the Earth the most challenging novel I've ever written. The Roman Empire and the events of 53 to 44 BC are well documented. So is the battle of Carrhae, in what is now southeastern

Topics Mentioning This Author

“They found him in the cloister, lying on his back with ice in his beard. He was half conscious, muttering about a Templar knight, a secret commission from the Pope, and a beautiful woman on a white pony.”
Colin Falconer, Silk Road

“His fellow monks carried him back to his cell and laid him on the hard cot that had been his bed for the last twenty years. He was an old man now and there was nothing to be done. His eyes had the cold sheen of death. A brother went to fetch the abbot so that the old fellow might make his last confession.”
