I never have writer's block because I never write unless I have something to say. But there are times when you do have to press ahead, even when you have no clear idea of where to next. Get something down on paper, and then improve it through relentless revision. If necessary, follow Horace's advice and let it sit in a drawer somewhere for a while so you can see it with clear eyes.

It's an avocation like any other. Do you love fishing? Playing guitar? Gardening? Writing is very much like that. It's actually a kind of high, It can be very hard to let go of a novel once you've become attached to the characters.
