Ryan Kirk Hey Dave!

Thanks for the awesome question!

The short answer is yes.

Primal was originally outlined as a 10-book series, and books four and five already have first drafts sitting on my computer. Although I'd still like to get all the stories out, I think that what I'm going to do is take the next planned trilogy, crunch it all into one really big book, and try to publish that. My plan is to answer all the big questions in that book. That way, the people who liked the series aren't left hanging, and if I can find the time to complete the whole story, I can.

Unfortunately, I can't give a solid date. I'd really, really like to finish it in 2019, but even with the start I have, it would take a few months to finish it up. If I can afford to do so - I definitely will!

Thanks for reading the series.
Ryan Kirk Hi Enwezor!

Thanks for the kind words, and the good question. The good news is that I do know when the next book will be coming out. The third book will be released either in late March or early April of this year (2019), and it will be the conclusion to this series.

Thanks again,

Ryan
Ryan Kirk Hi Shawn - thanks for the question, and for the kind words. I'm glad you've enjoyed the books so far.

The short answer is yes.

The longer answer: For me, Ryuu's story is largely completed, but I agree that there is still a lot of story in the world to be told, and I do have plans to finish it. Ultimately, I would love to have the entire nightblade world span nine books, and it will get there! Although it wasn't my intention when I started writing, it seems I'll be following the Star Wars model (original, prequels, sequels).

I hope that answers your question!

Ryan
Ryan Kirk Hi Luisa!

I'm glad to hear you loved the Nightblade series. If you're interested in the Primal series, the order is Primal Dawn, Primal Darkness, Primal Destiny. Also, insider tip - if you're not in any rush and haven't started the Primal series yet, I'll be publishing all three as an omnibus (for a cheaper price than all three separate) in January.

Thanks much!

Ryan
Ryan Kirk Great Question!

Short answer: No

Slightly longer answer: My editors and I worked really hard to make this a brand new entry point into the nightblade universe. You should be able to pick this up with no previous background at all. There are some links to the original books, but this story is completely new, set in a very different time period with a completely new and unrelated cast of characters.

Thanks for the question!

Ryan
Ryan Kirk Clearly Neo and Trinity :)

Ryan Kirk That's a great question! Thanks for asking.

I like to read a pretty tremendous variety, but most of my favorite authors are sci-fi and fantasy. Off the top of my head (and in no particular order) I'd say:

Neal Stephenson
William Gibson
Neil Gaiman
Orson Scott Card (I like most of his work, but Ender's Game will always have a special place in my heart)
Brandon Sanderson
Alexandre Dumas (Love the Count of Monte Cristo)

There's quite a few more that I like a lot, but those are the ones I'll always list as favorites.

With Gratitude,

Ryan

Ryan Kirk Hi Chris!

Thanks for the question! The answer is in two parts:

First, I do have a new book that isn't currently linked on goodreads (working on that), but it's called Primal Dawn - it's a short sci-fi novel if that interests you at all.

If not, I literally (just last week) finished the first draft of a new nightblade novel, and am working through the editing process. It's too early to say for sure when it will come out, but know there is one coming sooner rather than later!

Thanks for reading!

Ryan
Ryan Kirk Hi Shorya, thanks for the question!

I think you've put it perfectly. Yes, the books are inspired by Japanese culture, although inspired is about as far as I would go. I don't think I'm qualified to write a book that claims to be any more accurate than that.

Most of the Three Kingdoms developed pretty naturally as I was writing. At first I think my setting was more generic and western, but I practice with katanas myself, and so it made sense to use them as the primary weapon in the books. I've had a lifetime interest in Japanese history and culture, and as I wrote more and more eastern influences crept into the world. Although it may sound a bit like a cop-out, I don't think I ever "chose" the world. It developed around the characters and took on a life of its own.

I hope that answers your question! Let me know if you have any more, or if you're looking for something more specific.

With gratitude,

Ryan
Ryan Kirk Hi Kunnal, I apologize for the delayed reply.

Book Three will come out sometime in March. Once I can confirm a date I'm sure I'll make, I'll let people know!

Thanks for asking,

Ryan
Ryan Kirk Hi Brian!

It will. World's Edge is in the final stages of production right now, and I hope to see it up in about two weeks or so. The Wind and the Void will probably come out about a month and a half to two months from the release of the ebook, but I'll keep everyone updated once I know for sure!

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan Kirk Hi Lynda,

It's too early for me in the editing process to commit to a firm date, unfortunately. It will certainly be in the first quarter of 2016. I'm hoping for February, but the book is larger than either of the first two, so I may not get it finished until March.

Thanks for your patience!

Ryan
Ryan Kirk I don't feel like I'm a great person to ask here. I love writing and telling stories. When I'm not inspired I don't write. Reading great authors also makes me want to write.
Ryan Kirk I am working on the Third book of the Nightblade trilogy, as well as outlining some other books as well.
Ryan Kirk There are two pieces of advice I always give. The first is to write every day. Don't talk about the book or short story you're writing, just write, every day. Even if it's just a few words, write. Second, learn that writing and editing are two very different tasks. Don't go back through your work until it's done. Keep writing, keep moving forward. Only when you're entirely done should you go back and see how good or bad your writing was.
Ryan Kirk Being able to tell stories. Stories define us, and I'm honored to be able to share mine with readers.
Ryan Kirk Fortunately, writer's block has never been a huge problem for me. I tend to plan out my books pretty thoroughly, which really helps. When I do get into a sticky situation, I go for a five-six mile walk, and when I come back, I usually know what I'm going to do.
