I hope I am not jinxing myself but I have never had writer's block. I think it stems from the fact that I write nonfiction. That is more fact based and harder to lose words. I also am so passionate about what I write that it is exciting to me and the words just come out easily. Ask me this in another ten years after my tenth book and my answer might be different, but for now I am knocking on wood.

My answers might seem unconventional to some. I love being able to be at home to work. After teaching for 30 years, I simply love not waking up to an alarm. Establishing a schedule is a whole different story but I am grateful each day for being able to do what I love from the comfort of my own home. Secondly, I love that what I write helps people. I love it when I get comments from people and they tell me they have found it to be helpful in their own healing.

Just do it. Just pick up a pen or your computer and start. I started with an idea and then wrote an introduction Next, I wrote an outline for the chapters I wanted. After I had a workable outline, I wrote in what content I wanted for each chapter. Then I started with chapter 1 and the rest as they say is history. It helps if you write about what you are passionate about and have a working knowledge of your topic. That way, you don't quit in the middle or get so frustrated that you abandon your project.

I am currently working on a companion workbook to my book Waking Up to Heal. I just had so many people ask for one that I decided to try it. I also write e-books for my website. I have dipped my toe in the online course waters and am navigating my way through one of those as well.

Actually, when I started writing, I was amazed at how quickly I was able to write it. I will say though that it is easy when you are writing about your own life. The words just pour out. Now, I get my inspiration from my passion about the topic and the research I am doing.

I always wanted to write a book. I figured as an elementary school teacher that it would be a children's book or a romance novel, since I am a voracious reader of them. I suffered a hiking accident shortly after I retired and was laid up for months. It was then that I just woke up one day and said, "I am going to write a book." I knew I had a lot of difficult experiences that I could help others get through the way I did and so Waking Up to Heal was born.
