Back in the 1990s, when I was living in Washington, DC, (a much maligned city I actually love), my brother was also attending Georgetown University. While there, he was tapped by a Georgetown secret society called The Stewards. It was the spark that eventually grew into The Odd Fellows Society.

Write and join a writers group. As a successful writer-to-be, you need a group of people who will tell you what you NEED to hear rather than what you WANT to hear.
And remember: Being a great writer doesn't necessarily mean you are a great writer of fiction. If you've begun dabbling in writer fiction, take a creative writing course. If that won't work, buy some basic books on editing, plot, character and setting. You may think you mastered these concepts back in high school. The best cure for writer's block? Sit in a chair with your keyboard and forbid yourself from getting up until you've produced 400 words. Writer's block is too frequently trotted out as an excuse to avoid the work of writing.
