Hi Trisha -- "Between the World and Me" is obviously a dominant book of the moment, and I do see my book as a political complement to that. Plus, Coates' recent essays in The Atlantic about Bernie Sanders and the issue of reparations are compelling reading. Thanks for your interest!

Sticking to a consistent writing schedule is very helpful to me. I find I have my best energy in the early morning (odd, in that I'm not really a morning person), and getting up and going in to the cafe on the regular helps. Also, Annie Lamott's phrase of just doing a "sh*tty first draft" helps a lot. Just having something, anything, down is progress. I can then go back and edit and improve, which is easier than staring at a blank screen.
