He is the author of The New York Times bestseller Brown Is the New White: How the Demographic Revolution Has Created a New American Majority and the newly released national bestselling book How We Win the Civil War: Securing a Multiracial Democracy and Ending White Supremacy for Good.

I find I have my best energy in the early morning (odd, in that I'm not really a morn…moreSticking to a consistent writing schedule is very helpful to me. I find I have my best energy in the early morning (odd, in that I'm not really a morning person), and getting up and going in to the cafe on the regular helps. Also, Annie Lamott's phrase of just doing a "sh*tty first draft" helps a lot. Just having something, anything, down is progress. I can then go back and edit and improve, which is easier than staring at a blank screen.(less)
