“Wow! I read so many books that when I'm asked a question about all the books I've read, my mind goes blank. If I think of something else, I'll add to this later.”

The book I have published is "Breaking the Fall." It is a novel based on my experiences as a social worker. There is no fantasy in it whatsoever. It is available as a Kindle or in print form through Amazon.

The part of my family that I was researching was from Hungary and yes, I did go back there.
Lisa Sachs
Yes, a year before going to Hungary, I researched that part of my family. While I started with almost nothing, I learned a little about my family. Although I wasn't able to make any connections to my family, my husband and I did spend Shabbat at the progressive synagogue Sim Shalom. None of the people there were my relatives, but I felt that I had found my roots. It was a very transformative experience.

I'm sure we have something in common in having an interest in tracing our roots. I have to say that you have been more successful than I have been. I started with few clues and no relatives who could make my investigation any easier. Good luck with your search. I am still working on mine.

My mystery is the mystery of many whose grandparents or great-grandparents have come from other countries and have never spoken of it once they arrived in America. My great-grandparents came from Hungary in the late 1870's. When we were preparing for a trip to Eastern Europe, I began to search for my roots and wasn't able to find what I searched for. Who did they leave behind? Why did they leave their home? Are any of the descendants of those who stayed still alive? I hope to resume researching this mystery in the near future. I may even write a book about it.

If I read your book, I promise I won't try to fool you. Perhaps we could work out an exchange. I would love it if you would read and review my book as well.

My idea for Breaking the Fall grew as I talked to people about my experiences as a social worker. I wanted others to have a glimpse of the obstacles that many people I worked with faced. Often the most effective way to do that is by telling their stories. The stories in the book are all fictional but the situations are similar to ones I encountered. When you enter their world, a lot of things will become more understandable.

Finding my own voice and being able to express my ideas to the world.

I'm not usually blocked on everything so when I'm blocked on one thing, I work on something else.

Thanks for the birthday wish. The cake was bought. In general, I love to cook but am not much of a baker [of desserts]. I have always let Sara Lee do most of my baking.
