Tobey Alexander My line of work (thin blue line) outside of writing provides me with a lot of mysterious elements that would make awesome stories. I do think the most interesting, however, comes from somethig outside of work...the mystery of where my youth went!?! As I look at my three children, I am left gripping what's left of it and immersing myself in childish play and creativity ha ha ha
Tobey Alexander Having a legitimate excused for being slightly mad!
Tobey Alexander Sadly it is all factual work-based stuff. I still have my to-read list which hasn;t changed since last summer sadly as I have been obsessed with my latest project Into The Dark my next novel so find it difficult not to get distracted.
Tobey Alexander The first "proper" story I wrote was when I was at College (England) when I was about 17-18 and it was a twisted serial killer story called "The Gravy Train". I spent a lot of time on it but it fell into the ether when I lost my hard drive. I do intend to re-write it now I have grown as a writer (or at least I hope I have). The story was about a transgender killer whose motivation was based on her father's rejection of her sexuality, it was your typical "cat and mouse" style cop/killer story but got admittedly very bleak when I ended the story.

I have always written as a hobby but never really tried to make anything of them until The Gravy Train. It was followed by some more attempts to write during University (fantasy series but again I wasn't ready as a writer so it was far from my best work).

Hope you're enjoying The Magdon Series.

Tobey Alexander Dreams, random things I see in the world. Anything can inspire me but I always know when an idea is worth running with as it becomes an obsessive thing. I always like to have a visual representation of an idea, whether it's a photograph, a place, a sketch or a flowchart there always has to be something physical. My artist skills are somewhat lacking so I often end up having to use photographs or very poor pictures I draw.
Tobey Alexander Go for it. Too often I had an idea, wrote it then binned it or forgot about it. Life is too short to doubt yourself, go with the flow, take the feedback and don't be afraid to put yourself out there a little. Everyone has something to offer.
Tobey Alexander Rick and Evey O'Connell from The Mummy and Mummy Returns movies. I like their comedic chemistry and the family unit they represent in the first two films. We even named our first son after their young son....and the namesake certainly matches his personality these days!!!
Tobey Alexander I currently have two projects on the go (which is always a confusing affair). The first is (working title) Origins Of The Magdon which is a children's story based on an adventure I have been having with my two sons over the last 18 months. I've never written for an audience of 10-14 so that in itself is a challenge to change my writing style slightly.

The second is (working title) Whispering Shadows which will be a continuation of what I have begun in Footprints On The Other Side. In itself this will offer me an opportunity to expand on the life and adventures of Jack James as I have in the process of writing his story in Footprints have fallen in love with the character and enjoy the idea of taking him further.

Both are in their infancy and so will be working on them for some time yet.
Tobey Alexander Terribly! Sometimes I will sit and stare, other times I will just walk away but I have learnt that if I force myself to write the content and quality is never there and it doesn't reflect what I want it to be. It's better for me to enjoy it than force myself, that's why I write on a whim and don't set myself deadlines - being a part-time author full-time worker works better that way for me.
Tobey Alexander The idea came to me when I was walking through my home town and looked at one of the iconic buildings there. It had fallen empty and was becoming a shell of its former self so I entertained myself thinking what other uses it could have. I came up with the idea that it could be an old asylum, long forgotten and left to fall into disrepair. I then though how someone would escape from there and so the foundations of the story were born which eventually evolved into the story that is the heart of Footprints On The Other Side.
