Hi Tom, Thanks for getting in touch. 'The Kestrel' that features in my series is an entirely fictional sailing vessel based on sailing ships from around 100 years earlier than the one you're researching - so unfortunately I cannot aid you in your research. Best of luck with it!

It sounds simplistic, but just keep writing. :) Also, seek feedback from people who would be interested in the kind of book you're writing, take on board any criticism but don't take it to heart.

Sometimes I take a break and do something completely different and wait for the drive to write to return. Other times I push through it, keep writing and wait for it to lift.

For me the best thing is being able to go off into another world, where I am in control - but there are still surprises waiting for me as I get to know my characters and go on their journey with them.
