Erik Straker I write the kind of books and stories that I want to read. If I'm having fun creating something that makes me say "oh, cool" when I'm done putting it down, then that's my motivation to keep going. You definitely want to know who your target audience is and give them what they want, but ultimately you'll be inspired every day writing if you aim for a target audience that likes what you like. Music helps, and so do good books, television shows, and movies. Create a ritual for yourself in pre-writing. After that, just have fun.
Erik Straker Never stop. The moment you stop, it's done. You can only get better the more you write. And you can ALWAYS get better. Never stop writing. Never stop learning. Never stop loving the craft of writing. Just never stop.
Erik Straker Creating worlds and stories straight from the ether of your imagination. It's playtime, almost the same as when we're kids. Any fiction writer who is not having fun doing what they're doing probably shouldn't be doing it. It's hard work, to be sure, but the fun of creation is certainly the best thing about being a writer.
