Beverley Lee A weight settled itself on the bottom of the bed. Half asleep she switched on the lamp, but no one was there.
Beverley Lee On holiday in New Orleans one time, I went on a 'haunted history' tour (which will come as no surprise to many!) On a corner of the French Quarter our guide paused at a door, describing what had happened in the house. I was drawn into the etchings on the door, so much so that I completely lost my grasp on what was happening around me. Something dark had lived there. A definite mystery, that I still remember now.
Beverley Lee I had the beginning of book 2 as soon as I had finished The Making of Gabriel Davenport. I knew the setting would be different and that I would need a few more characters. Once they were in place, one of the main story arcs appeared, and then I just followed where it led me. Hopefully it works!
Beverley Lee Inspiration is all around. It can be a few lines from a song, a photograph, an overheard snippet of conversation, the world is an endless source of creative energy just waiting to be tapped!
Beverley Lee I'm currently working on the sequel to The Making of Gabriel Davenport. It's *almost* at the beta reading stage, I just need a final push before it's ready. And then, of course, I can start on the final book in the series!
Beverley Lee Don't ever give up. And don't lose yourself in all of the information out there that says you have to do things a certain way or it's wrong. Finding out what works for you is your right way. The only other thing I would add is be consistent - set a daily goal, even a small one (500 words, 30 minutes writing time) and guard it fiercely.
Beverley Lee Creating something that was never there before - new characters, new worlds. It's the closest thing to magic that I know.
Beverley Lee I write character back story even if I never get to use it. Sometimes what they reveal can be just what I need to get things rolling again. Or I'll take myself off and write something completely unrelated for a few days. When I come back, I am raring to go!
