I have decided that the news and nonfiction I read has become a rut for me, a depressing rut. I plan to read commedy so I can laugh more. I have read Lysisrtrata and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and I hope to read more of the Commedies of Aristophanes and Shakespeare this summer.

Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead are my favorite fictional couple. They manage to struggle through, despite the fact that they often get it wrong. Also, the cartoonist showed no partiality in humor aimed at both male and female characters.

Nature is my muse. I sit at a table on my porch which faces a woodlot alive with Crows, Woodpeckers, Squirrels, and even an occasional bald eagle. I take notebooks with me when hiking and bird watching. I also read the best of the best writers. I just reread Walden by Henry David Thoreau and I am rereading the travel journals of Matsuo Basho (1644 to 1694).
