Well, there's a blast from the past. Graham, it's great to hear from you again. My spider sense was tingling that I should log back into Goodreads again, and I'm glad I did. The Weekly Kook is designed to get me off my feckin arse and write again. I think we both know at this stage how hard it is to make any of this commercially successful (let alone, break even!), so once you start from that perspective, anything else that comes our way is a bonus! What's the best way to follow your work? I did have a peek a couple of months ago and was delighted to see you continuing the Baabaric series of books. The first one I read on my Kindle was a lot of fun. Hope you're well.

Thanks Harry. Depends on what route you want to go down. Self-publishing and traditional publishing each have their own merits. I write quite a bit about my own self-publishing path on my blog aidanjreid.com - The shortened version is, I chose self-publishing because I wanted to control my own destiny, using my marketing and sales background to promote my books. I also wanted to enjoy the higher % royalties with self-publishing, creative freedom, speed to market and less bureaucracy by being my own Boss. May not be for everyone, but it ticked the boxes for me. Best of luck with your own journey!

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your kind words. I was inspired to write about lucid dreaming when I had my first (and only experience) when I was 22. I've been desperate to return ever since! It gave me a glimpse into a world of possibilities and I did quite a bit of research which I rolled into PATHFINDERS.

Hope you are successful in the giveaway! :)

Pathfinders couldn't have been written were it not for experiencing my first lucid dream at the age of 22. It was a life-changing experience that revealed a whole new, tantalising world - one that I felt would make an interesting story. So far, reviews have been encouraging which makes me happy because the birth took ten years!

View my linkedin feed. The news and updates from my professional community from when I was back in sales reminds me of how much I abhor the rat-race. Wasted talent and unlimited potential pigeon-holed into a specific mould to suit a corporate identity. The salary helped but the soul suffers. I dread being sucked back in and find myself swimming against the tide every day, trying to write as well as I can and hoping to carve a living out of my passion.

Editing final draft of Sigil, my second novel to be released in the Summer of 2016. On top of that, I'm blogging on my own site and freelancing for another company to stay afloat and keep the debt sharks from circling!

Read a lot. Write a lot. Start a blog. Hone your talents. Ask for feedback. Don't take criticism too personally. Seek to improve. The reader is always right. Network. Learn marketing and sales. It's not enough to be an excellent writer. You need to be found and whether you are self-published or traditional, there will always be bigger, better and more successful competitors. The more strings in your bow, the better are your long term prospects.

Sharing stories/characters that have haunted my since time immemorial. Giving birth and sharing those in books with friends/family and future generations drives me to be the best I can be - to capture moments that can be enjoyed by others long after I'm gone.

I don't believe in writer's block. Writing is a profession like any other. Builder's don't get Builder's Block. Nor do footballer's suddenly forget the ability to play football (unless you're Eden Hazard of Chelsea FC). Any time I sit down in front of the laptop, I write through any barriers. It may not be the best quality but at least it get's me out of my head, and producing something. More often than not, I'll trash what I've written but there's usually a seed of an idea in there that I will work on in future edits.
