For Winter/Spring of 2020, I have a stack of non-fiction books on the Civil War--research for my next novel, the last one in The Fidelia McCord Trilogy. But, also on my reading list are: Today We Go Home (Kelli Estes), The Chisel Tree (W. W. Harper), The Ghostwriter (Allesandra Torre), If You Want to Make God Laugh (Bianca Marais).

I am currently working on Book 2 of the Fidelia McCord Series, titled On a Lark. This continues the story from Let the Little Birds Sing, and On a Lark introduces the characters of Jackson and Miles from a moonshine family in North Carolina. Of course, these parallel stories will come together at the end of Book 2. Book 3 in this series will, hopefully, come in 2020, and it will be set in Texas during the Civil War. This series was inspired by a young girl coming to Central Texas on a wagon train, a girl whose story spoke to me.

My first novel, A Thousand Stars, was inspired by a tale in my son's family tree. But, now, I'm working on a Texas series that was inspired by a log cabin and tombstones in a small, old cemetery near where I live. In researching this family's story, the young girl's story spoke to me, and, thus, the first book in the series, Let the Little Birds Sing, deals with a young girl's journey through grief. In researching Fidelia's story, I could only imagine the hardship faced by our county's early pioneers as they faced harsh lands and weather, attacks by rogues and native tribes, and incredible loss of life. As I prepare to write the 3rd book of the series, Mourning of the Dove, I am deep in research of Texas and the Civil War.
