Claudia Casser I'm torn between traveling to Iain Bank's "the Culture" worlds (FREX, see his PLAYER OF GAMES) and my own world "Brunch" in the Flock/Three Commandments universe. In the former, I would upgrade my body to Culture standards, hire a Knife for protection, debate philosophy with tolerant Minds, and try on alien bodies to immerse myself in alien cultures. In the latter, I'd work to create a Guild for Defectives from the Flock, and spend my credit at the Church of the Thinking Hedonist.
Claudia Casser As usual, I'm currently working on too many stories at once. You can see excerpts from some on www,ethicalantics.com, though I haven't yet added anything there from a short story in the NCLB universe, entitled "Buddy System," about a new guidance department program that pairs "bullies" and "victims" online and in each other's classes, homes and sports. Geoff is not a happy camper.

I did want specially to mention what I'm writing as a public service/current events project. IMO there is more than enough spec fic out there about societies in which women lose their civil rights. Hulu is even about to air a television series based on Margaret Atwood's "A Handmaid's Tale."

However, in the current political situation, I feel compelled to suggest a legal, "equal protection" perspective. "What's Sauce for the Goose" is set in a near-future where any time a State denies a woman's access to safe abortion, it must also sterilize the man who fathered the unwanted fetus.
Claudia Casser I was troubled about the way my younger child, who has ADHD, was treated by his teachers and peers. I wanted to understand him better, and I wanted to show those %&**&%s that people who are different can be heroes, too.
I also felt I needed to write a YA novel because the main problem with my writing was was that I shoved too many ideas into too little space. I hoped (and thank goodness it worked!) that if I thought about writing for teens, I would unbundle the questions I wanted to write about, simplifying my style.
Finally, I was very angry at the zoning board in my town. :)
