Emily Wendell I get to be anyone and live anywhere in any time.
Emily Wendell My ideas come from dreams or physical items. For example, I had a nightmare that became the beginning of a post-apocalyptic book. Another time I found a set of sheets that had lace on them. The lace seemed very Southern for some reason, and that thought turned into a story.

I never try to force anything. I just let my mind wander when I get various creative sparks and see if anything comes from it.
Emily Wendell In 2011, my husband and I went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to attend Bubonicon. The theme was Steampunk, which I had never heard of. I love history, and the whole concept of an alternate reality with steam instead of electricity fascinated me. So, I started toying with various ideas and characters. Gemma and Winston were created almost immediately, and, after a lot of daydreaming and researching, I had the rest of the group and an outline of the plot. That was all I needed to start going.
