I am currently working on a novel for the middle grade audience -- a mystery that I haven't yet solved and probably won't. The story will solve the mystery -- eventually. At some point, the story takes over and begins to write itself. I think that is when you know it's working.

The idea for Honeysuckle Holiday has been germinating for at least the past ten years, and came from an encounter I remember having with the black lady who looked after me and my two sisters when we were very young. I had recited a "chant" to her that I had learned from my aunt, and I recall that afterwards, I felt an uncomfortable shiver run down my spine, but I didn't know why it scared me so.
