I personally think writing is more about getting on with it than being inspired first. Sometimes it can be a hard slog and you have to just sit at your desk and work through it.
For me, inspiration comes while I’m actually writing. When I start working on an idea I’ve had for a new book, I tend to ask myself questions about it and this helps expand the idea. I write everything down that goes through my head. Putting pen to paper, or typing straight onto the screen just seems to help more ideas flood in.
For actual book ideas, they can come from anywhere, a phrase someone uses, a story on the news, an actual experience that, if it was turned on its head, would lead into a totally different direction. I’ll write all of these things down and come back to them later when I’m ready to start a new book. Then the process of asking questions begins again and I’ll see if a story develops.

Find your own way of working. There really are no written rules. Everyone is different and so everyone’s advice will also be different. Some say you must write every day, but that may be impossible. You may only have half an hour a week to yourself. If that’s the case then make sure you devote that time to actually writing.
One thing I will say is, don’t rush. Take your time to find out what you want to write. Everyone needs to find their own voice. Experiment, try writing in different genres. No one is rushing you to get something into print, especially when first starting out. Above all, enjoy the process. Good luck.

The best thing is being able to do something I love doing each day. I spend my days thinking about plots, creating characters who I really get to know over the course of a project, and writing and rewriting a story until it is the best I can make it. I have the freedom to choose what I do each day and each one is different. Sometimes I write for hours straight, other times I might only get a couple of lines done, but those sentences will have helped me move thorough a tricky problem, ready to get writing for hours again the next day. I can take breaks, go for walks, and choose when I want to return to my desk. I never wake up of a morning, dreading going to work.
