Goodreads asked Stuart Bone:

How do you get inspired to write?

Stuart Bone I personally think writing is more about getting on with it than being inspired first. Sometimes it can be a hard slog and you have to just sit at your desk and work through it.
For me, inspiration comes while I’m actually writing. When I start working on an idea I’ve had for a new book, I tend to ask myself questions about it and this helps expand the idea. I write everything down that goes through my head. Putting pen to paper, or typing straight onto the screen just seems to help more ideas flood in.
For actual book ideas, they can come from anywhere, a phrase someone uses, a story on the news, an actual experience that, if it was turned on its head, would lead into a totally different direction. I’ll write all of these things down and come back to them later when I’m ready to start a new book. Then the process of asking questions begins again and I’ll see if a story develops.
