I get idea's from everything. I'll often see something and think, "What if this happened right now? How would these people react?" I often give fake lives and personalities to people I see out in stores. I mentally make up stories about everyone and everything around me. If one seems to keep my attention, it usually becomes a story line.

I'm working on about 30 different stories and write on what I feel like when I sit down. Sometimes I want to write funny, so I pull up a funny story. Other times, I want serious, or maybe Victorian or Western. I have story for what ever mood I'm in. It makes it easier to write, since I'm not confined to just one story line.

The best thing about being a writer is seeing how the story unfolds. I don't always know what is going to happen myself. It's sometimes shocking and exciting for me to find out what is really going on in a story. I'm just another reader. I just happen to get the story before anyone else, though.

If I have writers block, I work on another story. I have about 30 starts to other stories. Sometimes it's best to take a step back and focus on something else for a while and then come back to what you were working on.

Let your characters tell the story. I have found when I try and make them do things, the story isn't as good as when the characters I've created take the lead.

I get my ideas from stuff around me. I have a very distracted mind and I think I'm probably a bad friend, because I struggle to follow conversations. I'll often see something of think of something when I'm out and about and have a story line run off in my head, making me horrible company to be in.
One time I was out with my husband and he noticed I was being quiet, so he asked me what I was thinking about. Not a good idea, because I was mentally plotting the murder and dismemberment of a character. Luckily, he loves me, disturbing mind and all.
