I was asleep in my room one night when three aliens teleported themselves to the foot of my bed. They appeared to be debating whether or not to take me back to their mother-ship when one reached out with a glowing finger and touched my forehead. Before I could speak, they were gone. When I woke up the next day, I had this fantastic idea for a story set at a lake cottage filled with nosy opossums, pesky raccoons and really strange neighbors. And while I do have some strange neighbors, I know zero opossums or raccoons, and have never vacationed at a real lake cottage.

Inspiration is a mysterious thing and it isn't always easy to find-sometimes it comes in a conversation, sometimes it can come at a totally random time like watching my children play or hearing the strange things they say to each other when they think I'm not listening. Sometimes it can come from a newspaper article, or twists I anticipate (but aren't there) in the books I'm reading. The third most scariest thing about being a writer is the fear of not finding inspiration!

The best thing about being a writer is that when people find out what I do, they automatikly think eye can speel every word correktly which ov course is 100% akkurate.

That's a great question! Writer's block doesn't scare me because I've never really had to deal with it before. Now, I'd like to finish with an incredibly witty, well designed response, but simply can't think of any right now. Weird....

Be prepared for rejection. Read as much as you can, especially in the genre you want to write. Be prepared for rejection. Write whenever you can, wherever you can, as much as you can. Did I mention to be prepared for rejection?
