D.H. Jonathan I just released a sequel to The "Volunteer" called The Girl Who Stopped Wearing Clothes.
D.H. Jonathan That's a difficult question to answer since stories are normally created from conflict. Why would I want to go to a place where there's a lot of conflict? But being the capitalist libertarian I am, if I had to choose, I'd go for the world in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged (after John Galt's long speech).
D.H. Jonathan I don't really keep a summer reading list, but I always have one to three books I am reading at any particular time. Last year, I finished a multi-year project to read all of the winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Now I only have to read one book a year to stay current with that (the Pulitzer Prize winner is announced in April, so I guess that will be on my summer "list"). If I see news stories about particular books I might want to read, I might add them to my TBR list.
D.H. Jonathan This goes way back to my middle school reading, but my favorite couple has always been John Carter and Dejah Thoris from the Edgar Rice Burroughs books. Their interplanetary romance provides inspiration for anyone who ever loved anyone of a different race or religion and anyone who tried a long distance relationship.
D.H. Jonathan I haven't read it yet, but it has been on my list for a little while.
D.H. Jonathan I don't know if I've ever been inspired to write. It's more of a compulsion.
D.H. Jonathan Writing is a little like playing God. You create characters and scenarios and put those into motion. It's exhilarating.
D.H. Jonathan I've been a nude model for art classes for over 30 years. I've often wondered how it would be to not HAVE to wear clothes when not modeling, and that formed the beginning of the idea for The "Volunteer".
D.H. Jonathan To just keep writing. I struggle with self doubt all the time, but I have to squash that and keep going. I also highly recommend reading as much as possible and not just in your chosen genre but all across the spectrum.
D.H. Jonathan My debut novel The "Volunteer" was actually the result of writer's block. I was stuck in a place in what I considered my "serious" novel and started writing The "Volunteer" just to amuse myself. I posted it a chapter at a time on the web, and it developed a following which encouraged me to finish it. And when I did finish it, I was surprised to find that I had developed very strong feelings about the novel.

I'm still struggling with that "serious" novel...
